Downtown Anchorage Is Vibrant Slideshow
‘Downtown’ is on the north end of the city. It's the historic town center, and now houses the major municipal and state buildings. Downtown is the most pedestrian-friendly part of Anchorage. Restaurants, nightlife, and performances are all accessible by foot. The Coastal Trail starts in downtown at Elderberry Park near the ocean front. Many tourists end up visiting this scenic trailhead during twilight and sunset.
If there's a major event held in Anchorage, chances are it will take place near the Park Strip, an old Airplane Landing area near Downtown. This green belt is Anchorage's un-official outdoor "plaza."
